British-Indian director, actor, choreographer and writer Vishal Handa is an established film-maker and theatre director in Mumbai. He shares his time between theatre and film and has directed theatre productions which have toured the country as well as over 20 music videos and several ads. In front of the camera, Vishal has acted in both independent and commercial cinema including Kohrra (Clean Slate Filmz - Netflix) and Dream Girl 2 (Balaji Telefilms - theatrical release) in 2023. He has collaborated with the NCPA and National Theatre UK for the primary landmark year of National Theatre Connections in India. A trained method actor, Vishal teaches at The Jeff Goldberg Studio (since 2016), a prestigious method acting school in the heart of the Hindi Film Industry. He is an incredibly enthusiastic, passionate and innovative teacher who is constantly pushing students to the edge of their potential. Previously qualified as a dentist, Vishal is born and brought up in England where he graduated in Bachelors of Dental Surgery from the University of Leeds. He is a member of the Royal College of Surgeons and completed a years work as a junior head and neck surgeon in hospital. After continuing work in primary care NHS and private dental practice, Vishal has completed part of his Restorative Dentistry Masters (PG Certificate) with distinction at Eastman Dental Institute, University College London. After working for three and a half year, Vishal decided to pursue his creative passion in the field of the performing arts and film and moved to Mumbai in January 2015. Earleir in his performance career, Vishal has been an accomplished dancer and choreographer, Vishal started his theatre career with a South-Asian Musical called Essence which toured England in 2007. He went on to perform across major venues in England in Bollywood and HipHop whilst also performing on BBC's Stricly Come Dancing.
