Jean St. James
Growing up on a farm in a small Kansas town, Jean was somewhat isolated and, consequently, caught up in a whirlwind of make-believe. It was no wonder the most rewarding experiences she had in high school and college (Kansas State University) were the plays and productions in which she was involved. The choice to act professionally was a natural progression. Jean is eternally grateful to the Director of Theatre at KSU, Joel Climenhaga, who encouraged her to go professional and inspired her to fulfill dreams beyond what she imagined possible. For more than 30 years, Jean has worked as a SAG actor with over 100 credits to her name, including hit shows like THE KOMINSKY METHOD, MOM, HAWAII 5-O, and many, many others. At the same time, she raised her son as a single mom and ran her own business where she produced workshop events for the entertainment industry. She also owns DON'T SHOOT YOURSELF, a self-tape audition company where she coaches and tapes actors. In September of 2019, Jean won a life time achievement award at the NEW VISION INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL. She is very grateful to be honored and dedicates this award to all the actors in the trenches who persevere day after day, working hard on their craft and career, doing whatever it takes to continue - And often with little reward...These are the true champions in Jean's eyes. She is a very active volunteer in the World Peace Organization, SGI-USA, and donates much of her time and energy to supporting others with their practice especially younger people. She very much believes in the absolute happiness and equality of all human beings. Jean is very proud of her son, Martin Starr, who has done many great and amazing things as a human being, artist and actor. He is very kind and giving with a great sense of humor. Jean is in great physical shape working out daily (yoga, cycling, free weights, etc) and feels very fortunate to have such an active and great life and a long and enduring career as a actress.
